Information on the Commune and La Villette:
The commune includes the towns of Fossard, Moillesulaz, Mon-Idée and Villette. It borders Vandœuvres, Choulex, Puplinge, Veyrier, Chêne-Bougeries and Chêne-Bourg, as well as France.
It is in the southern part of the commune that the listed buildings are located – Romanesque church, the rectory, the Town Hall and the Thônex manor – located mainly in the hamlets of Villette and Vieux-Thônex (classified in protected zone 4B), as well as Fossard.
The most famous “prehistoric” monument in the region is the Pierre-à-Bochet (an ancient megalithic granite stone).
Villette was the centre of the commune in the Middle Ages. The lord of Villette, vassal of the Count of Genevois, was a fairly important figure. He lived in a fortified house. At the time, there were two churches, that of Thônex and the seigneurial chapel of Saint-Nicolas in Villette.
"Villette, reading of a village", brochure produced as part of the Thônex Master Plan illustrating the different dimensions of this hamlet. Copy available at the Town Hall.
