Geography
Martigny-Croix (or La Croix) probably owes its name to its geographical position at the crossroads of international roads to France (via the Col de La Forclaz) and to Italy (via the Col du Grand-Saint-Bernard).
History
Martigny-Combe, like other Valais communes, only experienced significant growth from the 1950s, with the acceleration of tourism development, the boom in industry and construction and, above all, the rise of new communication routes, notably the La Forclaz road from 1955 and the Grand-Saint-Bernard road in 1964.
Martigny-Combe had: 982 inhabitants in 1970, 1035 in 1980, 1261 in 1990, 1778 in 2000, 1943 in 2005, 2236 in 2010, 2351 in 2020 and 2346 on December 31, 2021.
